Cold Sores are one of the mostĀ embarrassingĀ things that you can have on your lip. You know when they’re coming because you start to feel a little tingle and the color of your lip changes slightly. You then start to think about what’s going to happen to your lip and how much it is going to change your schedule for the next two weeks because you’ll have that pesky thing on your lip.

I’m going to give you a simple cold sore home treatment that you can do that will help prevent cold sores from appearing.

Cold sores are a form of the the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) and many people suffer from this virus. Many more people than you would ever imagine suffer from this virus. You’re probably used to just waiting it out when a cold sore initially forms and spend the next 2 weeks hiding from all social situations and not wanting to have your picture taken. I’ve been there as well and it’s a blow to your ego when you see that nasty cold sore on your lip in pictures. It’s a constant reminder of something that you never thought you would be able to cure.

The simplest way to fight a cold sore is to prevent it from happening. Here are a few simple cold sore cures that you can do at home.

  • Toothpaste- you can choose to put toothpaste over the cold sore. This will cause the cold sore to dry out sooner and will speed up the healing process by a few days.
  • Ice Cubes- Ice cubes help to prevent the cold sore during the initial stages. During the initial stage is when the cold sore will be red and start to grow. If you place ice cubes on the cold sore at this point, it will slow down the swelling and sometimes prevent the cold sore from growing to be too big.
  • Lysine- Lysine is a vitamin that you can take that contains Vitamin C, Zinc, B6, and L-lysine in it’s HCl form and will all help to cut the time it takes for your cold sore to cure. Learn more about how lysine helps fight cold sores

All of these can be used as home treatments for cold sores and work great if you use them together.
